STUDY OF CHAOS IN CLASSICAL & QUANTUM MECHANICS (1999)

Dr. Madhuranga Fernando, Dr. Asiri Nanayakkara

It is well known fact that for two dimensional and higher dimensional classical systems behave chaotically or non-periodic manner for certain energies. However corresponding quantum systems do not seem to show such behavior for the same energy (or for any other energies). This discordance between complexity in classical and quantum mechanics attracted many scientists to investigate various classical and quantum systems to understand the fundamental reasons for this behavior for last fifteen years. One of the ways (actually the obvious way) of investigating how the chaos, disappear from classical mechanics is by studying the quantum system in the classical limit where , where the classical system is chaotic. (egs. Classical propagator theory and Greens functions methods). For many years the research on quantum chaos has been mainly focused on the classical-quantum correspondence in the semi-classical regine of classically chaotic dynamical systems.
