Bio

I am currently serving the University of Sri Jayewardenepura in the capacity of the Acting Dean and the Head of Computer Engineering, in the newly established Faculty of Engineering. I have gained valuable experience in administrative work as well as curriculum development during this time. I am also collaborating with two leading medical faculties in the country in order to conduct research into bio-medical research problems that affects Sri Lankan public in a day to day basis.

For my PhD, I have designed and published algorithms for effectively analyzing human meta-phase chromosomes to detect various abnormalities in them. Human chromosomes pose major challenges from an image processing point of view mainly due to their high morphological variations. I have effectively developed algorithms that can account for these variations and other artifacts such as premature sister chromatid separation caused by chemical agents used in cell preparation. Holds a US patent for these algorithms.
