WORK EXPERIENCE RELATED TO MICROBIOLOGY

 

  • Consultant Microbiologist responsible for the clinical specimen processing in the Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura
  • Consultant Microbiologist (off-site) for the Avissawella Base Hospital 2015-2018
  • Six years of intense work experience in Medical Microbiology including Medical Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Immunology and Hospital Infection Control.
  • Hands on experience on practical aspects in microbiology including all the bench skills.
  • Experience in the management of Hospital acquired infections and community acquired infections.
  • Performance of antibiotic assays and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration assays (MIC).
  • Exposed to hazardous waste management activities in hospitals (Mainly clinical waste disposal activities).
  • Working in special campaigns such as AIDS and HIV control programs, Anti Leprosy Campaign, Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases Control Program and Epidemiology Unit in the Ministry of Health.
  • One year clinical and laboratory training at Microbiology Laboratory, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane, Australia.

 

 

 

Teaching experiences

 

1)      Conducting lectures, practical sessions and tutorials for medical students, nursing students, MLS students, pharmacology students and human biology students in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

2)      Involved in lectures and practicals for post graduate diploma in Medical Microbiology as a PGIM trainer.

3)      Involved in teaching to undergraduate medical trainees, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo and Faculty of Medicine, Peradeniya.

4)      Conducted a course of lectures on pharmacology for pupil nurses at NTS- Sri Jayewardenepura.

5)      Delivered lectures to staff nurses at National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo in infection control workshop.

6)      Involved in training of trainee medical laboratory technologists.

7)      Took part in training of intern house officers and post graduate trainees in microbiology and pathology.
