Prof. Tikiri Nimal Herath is a Professor at Department of Economics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. In 1989, he was appointed as a Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. After that, he obtained his M.A and PhD degrees in Economics. He conducted his postdoctoral research in the University of Wollongong in 2006. On his postgraduate qualifications, he was promoted exactly on due dates to the posts of  Senior Lecturer II and Senior Lecturer I. In 2015, he was promoted to the post of Professor on merit.

 
He teaches  a variety of subjects including econometrics and research methodology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in his university as well as in some other universities in Sri Lanka. In addition, he supervises graduate research students preparing their dissertations. In 2005, he was appointed as the head of his department and, in 2011, he functioned as the Chairman of the Board of Social Sciences of the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. Prof.Herath has published papers in several fields including the role of the state, local government, human rights, education, Buddhist economics,  decentralization of governance, poverty and indigenous knowledge. He also has presented papers at home as well as in universities in China, India, Australia, Hungary and United Kingdom. In 2014-2016 he worked for the University of Fiji as the Head of Economics Department.
