Vihanga Perera teaches in the Literature concentration at the Department of English. He works in a cross section of subjects in modern and contemporary Literatures which includes British, Postcolonial and Sri Lankan Literatures. His primary research focus is on aspects of Sri Lankan Literature.

Vihanga Perera has been educated at Kingswood College and the University of Peradeniya. He holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the latter institute.

He is also a writer of poetry, short and long fiction. He contributes to the national media as a critic of the arts and society.
